I work in a highly specialized area and do not really see the purpose of working in a structured way. I manage a very small team and my work as a scientist does not lend itself to standard project management practices.

Standard project management practices are important to ensure that your fellow team members are able to be effective in their roles to contribute their best to the overall work. In addition, in the event that the work of the team needs to be replicated or built upon by others, it is important that a record exists of how the work was accomplished.
