The CERN leave year runs from 1st October to 30 September of the following year.
The following days are official holidays: 1st January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1st May, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, "Jeûne Genevois", 24th December, 25th December and 31st of December.
The Director-General closes the site of the Organization during the end-of-year holidays (in general, the last week of December and the first week of January). The days of this annual closure are not deducted from the annual leave entitlement. The dates of the official holidays and the end-of-year closure are approved by the Standing Concertation Committee (SCC) each year and are published in the first CERN Bulletin of the year.
Leave other than special saved leave must be taken in units of days or half-days.
Any absence without prior authorisation and/or justification exposes members of the personnel to disciplinary action.
In this procedure, the term "leave" shall be taken to mean "authorised absence" in the case of associates and students, in accordance with the conditions laid down by the Director-General.
